The 12 Day Rule - Changes Operators should be aware of

Coach Operators undertaking international journeys will be aware of the "12 Day Rule" allowing drivers to work for up to 12 consecutive 24 hour periods on single international journeys provided certain conditions are met and extended periods of rest are taken after the journey.

From 1st January 2014 new conditions apply for operators wishing to rely upon the 12 day rule.  From this date, any vehicle making use of the derogation must be fitted with a digital tachograph and if driven between 22:00 and 06:00 hours, the vehicle must either be multi-manned or no more than 3 hours of driving must be done before a qualifying driving break is taken.

Operators should ensure that they are fully familiar with all the conditions that apply when taking advantage of the 12 day rule - if you have any queries on this or upon any other matter relating to your operations, we would be happy to advise - please call us on 01279 758080.
